Position Overview
The Electrical Engineer III will serve in a consulting capacity, providing electrical engineering design, analysis, and technical advisory services to upstream and midstream oil & gas clients. This role supports multiple clients and projects concurrently, delivering detailed engineering packages, technical reviews, and field support for oil and gas producers.
The position requires strong technical depth, client-facing capability, interface effectively with other disciplines, and the ability to independently manage scope, schedule, and deliverables in a remote environment.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Engineering (Primary Focus)
Lead electrical design for:
Well pads and production facilities
Compressor and pump stations
Tank batteries and pipeline assets
Develop and issue:
One-line and three-line diagrams
Load lists and panel schedules
Area classification drawings
Cable schedules and routing plans
Grounding and lightning protection designs
Support development and provide guidance to:
P&IDs
Instrument Index
Cause and Effects
Control Narratives
Size and specify:
Transformers
Switchgear and switchboards
MCCs and VFDs
Generators and backup power systems
Power quality solutions
Perform and review power system studies:
Load flow
Short circuit
Arc flash
Protective device coordination
Develop detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) and construction work packages.
Prepare technical specifications and scope documents for bidding.
Conduct technical bid evaluations and vendor submittal reviews.
Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, API, and client standards.
Design for hazardous locations (Class I, Div 1 & 2).
Provide construction-phase support, field troubleshooting, and commissioning assistance.
Controls & PLC (Secondary Scope)
Support PLC-based control systems.
Review control narratives, I/O lists, and panel layouts.
Assist with integration of PLCs and SCADA systems.
Participate in FATs, SATs, and startup activities as required.
Consulting & Client Interface
Serve as a technical point of contact for clients.
Manage multiple projects with varying scopes and timelines.
Develop proposals, scope definitions, and engineering hour estimates.
Provide peer reviews and technical QA/QC of deliverables.
Mentor junior staff and contribute to internal technical standards.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
6+ years of experience in upstream and/or midstream oil & gas.
Demonstrated experience in an EPC or consulting engineering environment.
Strong background in industrial applications.
Experience developing BOMs, specifications, and construction packages.
Proficiency with power system analysis software (ETAP).
Ability to manage client relationships and work independently in a remote setting.
Preferred Qualifications
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
Experience with compressor stations and gas processing facilities.
Familiarity with SCADA systems and RTUs.
Experience supporting multiple clients simultaneously.
Experience troubleshooting electrical systems on-site alongside electrical personnel.
